Orangatang Caguama.

The Trip is back! The most popular commuter / long distance skateboard to date took a one-year soul searching sabbatical in 2017. It comes back stronger and more refined than ever. Pantheon has been testing this board for almost a full year in various forms, attempting to make the board in Denver themselves but could not manage the radical curves without cracking the wood. Was it dry Denver or something else? Nevertheless, they rode their cracked prototypes through the sunset and into the dark of night, searching for a way to make this feeling something that everyone could enjoy. Well, they finally found a way to make it happen, and they are pleased to present this beautiful skateboard in all its glory, molded to perfection.

What has changed:
· Deeper Drop! – Pantheon increased the drop to a full 1.3 inches. This gets you lower than ever for easier pushing and commuting
· Better Lamination! – Mold improvements and epoxy lamination make this deck more durable than ever.
· Ergonomic Improvements! – A dedicated mold for this board meant Pantheon designed the curves specifically for this shape and your feet.
· Aesthetic Improvements! – Stained wood veneer and laser cut griptape really make the Trip pop on the street.
· 8-ply Standard! – Reduced concave makes the Trip a perfect do-it-all with 8 plys of Canadian maple!

The Trip v2 is functionally very similar to its original design with improvements in every way possible. We pressed the decks with epoxy to further preserve the wood and increase its life. We skated a hand-cut model with no clear coat to see if we could make it warp or deteriorate in the weather. It’s still straight and looks like crud, if anyone wants it! The glue lines are tighter than ever, showing significant improvements that have been made to the mold, which add to its strength and resilience. We reduced the concave in the body of the board and gave the platform the tiniest bit of camber to “load” the wood, making it feel more lively and energetic commute. We increased the width by 1/4″ to 9.25″ at the widest to really perfect the setups we are recommending for the deck. The wider width and increased prominence of the drop platform really makes this deck perform when riding slideways down hills and around corners. More width means more leverage, and since the wheels were sticking out that far anyway, it was the move!

We are riding and selling this board with Paris 150mm trucks. We keep the setup thin so you can push more ergonomically, keeping the feet and hips aligned under the body when pushing, so you can spend more of your energy being centered and focusing on power and control. The less energy you’re spending on your balance, the more energy you have to travel over further distances. More distance and commuting efficiency makes for more fun, and that’s the whole point of this deck. We want you to feel empowered to get places on your skateboard. You will ride more often when you choose a Pantheon commuter.

Setup Advice –
With Paris Trucks and their soft stock bushings, we find that we can get just the slightest hint of bite with the Orangatang InHeats or Seismic Blast Waves. If this scares you, we suggest upgrading your bushings. That said, we have ridden prototypes for almost a year on stock bushings with no problems. With the deck so low, you will nearly have to bottom it out to turn enough to make it bite. At my 170 lbs and aggressive riding style, I trust it! But you can make that choice for yourself. When setting up your Trip with thin trucks like the Paris 150, you will want to choose a wheel that does not have too much offset on the inner lip. That’s why the InHeat and Blast Wave are such good wheels for this deck. The InHeat, with its wider contact patch, will leave the edge of the wheels just barely wider than the 9.25-inch platform. They will be a great choice for those who like to carve and grip, and they break in nicely and feel great over the life of the wheel. They will start sliding really smoothly once you’re into the meat of the wheel and will be a little choppy (more grip!) until you reach that point. The Blast Wave is a little bit thinner and will line up almost perfectly with the edge of the deck. It breaks in a little more quickly and never has as much grip as the InHeat, but feels more effortless to get the wheels sliding, and the exceptionally high rebound Defcon urethane feels a little bit faster.
